i wrote this in a frenzy at 3am. i love undertale so much you don't understand

2:55: i hate it when my brain starts thinking too much in the fucking late ass hours of 2:45 am anyway, i got recommended fallen down piano with reverb on yt again and yknow, obviously i gotta listen to the hella peaceful ass helllll music because it just do be really beautiful yknow? but then i thought about how when monsters fall down, they're considered fallen monsters? i'm forgetting my exact undertale lore, but wasn't it about how the monster was dying of old age, or just having a weak SOUL in general? which was why alphys did her experiments and the whole point of the DT experiments to prevent them from dying. and i know your best friend is the first song you listen to when you begin Frisk's journey through the underground, but i'm just thinking about how he's probably not done that to all of the other children that have fallen before Frisk, considering that Toriel is always there to help the children and care for them. So, tying back to Fallen Down..., all of the kids that fell into the Underground had "fallen" in the sense of if they were a monster, they would've been dying. all of the children who fell into the underground had a sense of not wanting to continue their lives with the other humans, which is why they decided to fall into the hole in hopes of finding release from their lives. they've been emotionally dead for a long time. that's where they start, and that's their emotional state when they decided to fall. they're children who don't have the will to keep going, but then toriel comes in and takes care of them, they want to feel loved, to be a child, to be a human where they can just be. it's why each and every one of them make the decision to go through the ruins door, to experience living

2:56: anyway this is bullshit analysis it's nearly 3am i don't think i made sense

2:56: me getting emotional over fallen down for the 27345394 time

2:58: gods i love undertale characters i fucking love toriel and her flaws, because it's what makes her seem like well rounded person who has motivations and grief, and that grief is what makes her so, so unique in how she presents herself

3:00: i fucking love papyrus because he is so skroigly but also because he believes in you. even in the no mercy run, he isn't naive. he isn't, good god. yes he sees the best of people, but it does get more than that. he loves. he loves so much. and isn't that just difficult in this society sometimes yknow?

3:02: i fucking love undyne, because despite her slightly misguided anger towards humans, she is, after all, representing of justice. she wants the bring the best out of everyone. she's critical, but she can identify when she's wrong. she just exudes so much confidence and is such a big motivator, it makes it so hard to dislike her.

3:04: i fucking love alphys, and isn't she such a complex character when at first glance. she really isn't that complicated in terms of how much analysis of her personality really needs. she wants to help, but she afraid to do it wrong. she wants to be the best, but she never feels her best. if she hides her mistakes, then nobody needs to know that she was a "bad person," when she was just trying to do what she thought was right.

3:05: i fucking love metatton, and after reading ALIVE AU it made me love him even more. yes, he's selfish, but he still wants the best for alphys. he's the type of monster who doesn't outwardly show he cares, but he will absolutely be there when you need it most, to bring you back and to make sure you're ok. 3:06: he also has some regrets and grievances, don't get me wrong, this is probably the most unknown character for me haha, but he makes me think about how, in reality, there really is just one life, and that one life you should make the most of it.

3:08: i fucking love asgore. a sad old pitiful shell of himself, but filled with so much pain and regret for all the things he's done. he wants to mend his wounds, but he cannot bring himself to. he feels as if his decisions were his to bare, and he must deal with his own consequences. he needs a hug, but he'd never accept one. he doesn't think he deserves forgiveness, but he does. he really does.

3:11: and of course, sans. well, i know he is famous because of megalovania, but in the end, he really makes me sad, maybe pity. depression is a bitch. the amount of hope he exudes when he sees the sunrise during the pacifist makes me cry. he never thought he'd get here. he never thought he'd be okay enough to be there for papyrus. because isn't everything for him? even when you kill papyrus, he doesn't do anything except call you a dirty brother killer. he's so, so tired. really, he's just putting up a mask every day. and he is literally the exact opposite of papyrus yeah?

3:12: anyway. i didn't think i'd type so much haha 3:12: love letter to the game that made me feel

3:15: i think, because the story really makes you think about decisions, that your decision to reset, will affect everyone? makes this world really real for me. don't get me wrong, i love omori. the story is really good and i love it to bits. sunny has an incredibly complex history with his emotions but... the story will always just feel like just that. a video game character on a screen.

3:23: hmmm. i'm thinking again. i think what really did it in for me is this old comic i saw even before i got into undertale and saw a playthrough of it. it was simply drawn, but basically someone wanted to replay undertale after the true pacifist route, and flowey comes on screen right? but then the comic artist wrote about how they couldn't do it. they couldn't reset, because it had been probably a few months or like a year since they've played, and Frisk had probably done so much in that timeframe, it would be incredibly cruel to take it all away because "you were curious" to play the game all again and it also ended with someone else commenting "undertale: the game you never play again" or something like that

it was kinda hard making a cohesive thought at 4AM when i answered this but since it's one of my most-liked asks (possibly due to the. somewhat amusing content of the question) (this is not a diss, i'm very glad this is a website where (visibly[?])trans headcanons are accepted and loved but like. it hasn't always been that way + it's not like that everywhere + plenty of people even on here don't see [character] in the same way as you do. and thank god. diversity is tha spice of life babyyyy) it's easier for me to have #thoughts now that i'm actually rested

max put it beautifully (and in ways which ?possibly? matter more to him than they do me) with "in my head your guys are jpgs before they even have gender" & "it's like asking why a piece of jewelry or a road is cisgender".

like when i draw and when i write i think this guy [gestures as widely as a can 1) so you don't know who i'm talking about 😏 2) because. um. where is he] can walk through walls. like physically, in the flesh, matter melding and melting and wreathing together, he comes to the wall one and exits another, unchanged yet fundamentally different, ship-of-theseus'ing himself into a new existence through matter. if you think i make a conscious effort to depict [using him as an example] him as cisgender... or as [particular]gender frankly... you've lost the plot. /lovingly by all means. i understand that if gender is very important to you, you are used to (/maybe expect?) it being important for others too, and that being a big, conscious/salient/visible part of one's writing and drawing œuvre in the same way it is for you. but in a gorgeous and beautiful turn of events, people are fundamentally different from one another, even if we are all so alike. and i cannot begin to put into words how Not interested i am in digging into characters' genders consciously, visibly, saliently, with words/concepts that are easy for you to fit into a "cisgender" or "transgender(-in-a-specific-way)" box. i got a whole lot other typa shit going on 💯 (<- in the pain of the poet)

tldr you can never know if a character i draw is cis! you're free to assume so, as out of everything one can assume about my art, characters being assumed cisgender is not particularly insulting to me. you'll never know because i'm keeping the gender thoughts to myself cos i have my own #thang to do 😏 and it involves researching greek pre-writing-tradition poetry to get a feel of the metrics. which will likely never make it into any fic of mine because i'll give up but i'm having fun. #KEEPWONDERIN #WOULDNTYOULIKETOKNOWWEATHERBOY

i'm genuinely curious, is there a reason you draw most of your characters as cisgender?

confounded by this question because i don't draw a lot of "my" characters. my OCs tag is giving abandoned mall. if you mean characters i draw in general: how/why do you assume them cis? a character being depicted as amab¹ + masculine or afab¹ + feminine (& that's pushing it. i barely draw feminine characters in general lol) does not make them cis. i don't write about gender (characters' or mine frankly) much because i have Way More Other Things That I Consider Vastly More Interesting to spend my time writing about quite frankly, but you cannae know that. this is an assumption you are making. whatever this assumption internally comes from... not my business i don't live inside of your skull. what i'm doing is #mythang in ways i think makes sense for the themes, the motifs, their backstories, for the way i think they interact between each other, with the sort of baggage i read/can read into a narrative. in medias that have interpretations/perspectives as a central theme, people are bound to draw/interpret characters differently. fandoms are wider than you think they are, and there are as many people who draw characters as trans(-in-a-specific-way) as they are who draw them as cis (or trans-in-a-diiferent-way). you might live in a bubble where everyone draws a character as trans(-in-a-specific-way) (and chances are if we share a fandom i am in this bubble too!), which is not a bad thing, but it might not be my experience. or anyone else's. above it all. i'm doing my thang. and you do yours. 💯☮️🕊️

¹ i'm very much aware this is not The Ideal terminology to use but for the sake of simplicity & because i'm assuming this is what you are basing yourself on visually this is the most easily-understood way i can phrase it

“Stick to the plan, Y/N.” Steve’s voice came through over the intercom. She rolled her eyes at his warning. He always seemed to be extra cautious with her, making her feel like an unimportant member of the team, and this mission was no different.

“I got this,” she said, completely ignoring his request and charging headfirst at the enemy. Her brash decision resulted in her receiving a heavy beat down, ending up with a split lip and fractured ribs.

Needless to say, Steve was pissed. He and Y/N developed a close friendship over the years, during his search for Bucky. She was oftentimes the one who would stay up all night with him, looking for any trace of Bucky’s existence online. She’d become one of the closest people in his life, which is exactly why he was upset with her, endangering her own life.

After the mission, he confronted her at the base camp.

“You could’ve gotten killed!”

“But I didn’t,” she snapped back. “And the mission was a success anyways, so I don’t get why you’re so mad right now.”

Steve closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, sighing.

“It’s reckless behavior like this that’s eventually going to get you killed, Y/N.”

Bucky walked into the room and immediately regretted his decision as soon as he laid his eyes on Y/N. He’d come to foster an animosity towards her, after seeing her close friendship with Steve. After Bucky joined the Avengers, he noticed how much time they spent together, and jealousy started to fester within him. Steve was the only person he felt comfortable being around in the tower and she constantly took him away from Bucky. Everyone else seemed to have an aversion to him, or so he assumed. He never gave anyone the chance to get to know him, locking himself up in his room most hours of the day. Bucky didn’t think anyone would want to get to know an ex-assassin, especially one that killed the Tony Stark’s parents. She was the one thing that kept Steve away from him and he despised it. So Bucky did what he did best and avoided any sort of interaction with her.

Steve looked at Bucky and suddenly, an idea popped in his head. He had noticed how closed-off Bucky had been since joining the Avengers and refused to let Y/N be alone, worried that she might make another brazen decision. He hatched a plan to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

“Bucky,” Steve said, making his way over to him. “You and Y/N will be assigned to the same room tonight.”

Bucky choked on his own spit in response and Y/N began to protest.

“You’re not serious, right?” Steve turned to face her with a stern expression.

“You’re not giving me any reason to trust you to be alone.” She let out a defeated sigh and crossed her arms across her chest.

“Why me?” Bucky asked, trying to figure out how he ended up in this situation.

Steve placed a hand on Bucky’s shoulder and looked into his eyes. “Because I trust you, Buck. I need you to do this for me.”

Bucky could see the desperation in Steve’s eyes and reluctantly nodded.

Steve was able to obtain another key card to the hotel room that Y/N was assigned to for the mission. He forgot to take into account the logistics of the sleeping arrangements, leaving Bucky to find a single bed as he entered Y/N’s room.

Bucky froze, his right hand on the door handle, keeping it open, his left hand by his side, holding his duffel bag. He racked his brain, trying to figure out what to do, when Y/N’s voice pulled him from his thoughts.

“Relax,” she started, motioning for him to come inside. “I’ll sleep on the floor, alright?”

Y/N knew that Bucky didn’t like her, despite Steve trying to convince her otherwise. It hurt her feelings a bit, especially after she’d learned so much about him through both Steve’s stories and the time she spent tracking him down. He was such an important person to Steve, her close friend, and Bucky hated her. At first, she figured he was shy and wasn’t ready to open up to anyone else, especially after all the trauma he endured. But she realized he actively disliked her over time, with Bucky always leaving the room when she entered or ignoring her offers to hang out with her and Steve. Eventually, she gave up on reaching out to Bucky, as she only seemed to upset him further, no matter what she did. She figured it was for the best.

Bucky stepped into the room and shook his head.

“Bed’s too soft for me anyways, I’ll take the floor,” he grumbled.

Y/N shrugged in response, knowing that Bucky would be too stubborn to try and argue against. She turned around and picked up the phone, calling the front desk to ask for extra blankets and pillows. When she hung up the phone, she turned back to Bucky to see him nod in thanks.

The rest of the night was silent, as they both prepared for bed, taking turns going into the bathroom to wash up and change. While Y/N was in the bathroom, Bucky arranged the extra blankets and pillows into a makeshift bed on the ground, something that he’d done countless times before. Y/N exited the bathroom in an oversized t-shirt that covered her shorts, and placed her toiletries bag in one of the hotel dresser drawers.

“Bathroom’s all yours.” Bucky grunted in response, grabbing some clothes and a bag headed for the bathroom.

“Don’t do anything stupid,” he stated, just before shutting the door behind him. Y/N scoffed at his comment, gently climbing into bed, in an attempt to not further injure her ribs. She winced as she tried to get into a comfortable position before settling to sleep on the side of her unaffected ribs.

Bucky emerged from the bathroom to see Y/N lying on her left side, her back towards him. He assumed that she had already fallen asleep and quietly crawled into his makeshift bed.

Approximately 10 minutes had passed, when he heard her sniffling. At first, he thought the noise was coming from outside the window, but he traced it back to her. He remained lying on his back for a moment, deciding whether or not to say something. Bucky sighed before speaking.

“You okay?” Y/N immediately stiffened upon hearing Bucky’s voice. She was hoping that he wouldn’t hear her crying, despite his super soldier hearing abilities.

“Yeah, ‘m fine,” she replied back, her voice wavering as she spoke. Y/N hated how weak and pathetic she sounded in that moment. Her fractured ribs made it hard for her to breathe and the adrenaline, that was previously shielding her from the pain, had faded, leaving her to lie there in agony. On top of that, she also felt that this mission solidified her belief that Steve had little faith in her ability to be an Avenger. The last thing she wanted to do right now, was to confess her insecurities to Bucky.

Bucky’s attitude softened, hearing Y/N’s voice crack when she spoke. He knew she’d gotten hurt due to her own, dumb, decision during the mission. Bucky quietly pulled his blankets off and stood up, leaving the room without saying another word. As soon as the door shut, Y/N burst into tears. Bucky did exactly as he’d done in the past many times before, leave. She wasn’t sure why this time upset her more than the rest. Probably because she knew that he was aware of her crying and he’d still chosen to abandon her completely.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door opening, causing her to stop crying. Y/N listened to Bucky’s footsteps growing closer, and felt the bed dip under his weight as he sat on the edge she was facing towards. She peered over the blanket she was covering her face with, to see Bucky facing her, holding a bag of ice, wrapped in a towel. Bucky’s heart sank at the sight of her glossy eyes and tear stained cheeks in the moonlight.

“For your ribs,” he spoke softly, gesturing to the ice bag in his hands.

“Oh. Thank you.”

Y/N took the bag from him, attempting to slowly sit up. She closed her eyes as she grimaced, and suddenly felt a hand on her back, helping her up. Her eyes opened to reveal Bucky, with a soft smile on his lips. She silently thanked him again, placing the ice bag on the right side of her ribcage.

“Thought you hated me,” she mumbled, keeping her gaze down on her lap. He furrowed his brows, keeping his eyes on her.

“I don’t hate you.”

“Well, you definitely don’t like me.”

Bucky paused at her comment, thinking about his next words, before responding.

“I don’t like that you take up all of Steve’s free time,” he grumbled, causing Y/N to quickly look up at Bucky, his eyes averting her gaze. Her face fell, immediately realizing why Bucky had treated her so coldly all this time. He just missed his friend.

“I’m so sorry, Bucky.” She placed a hand on his shoulder and he looked up at her in response. “I didn’t realize, I’m sorry.”

Bucky didn’t know what to say. He wasn’t expecting her to be so kind and understanding, even coming up with multiple points to argue back at her. He realized then that he didn’t know her at all, but that he wanted to now. In an instant, she became an entirely different person. He studied her eyes and wondered if they had always sparkled like that, if her cheeks were naturally rosy, or if her lips had always been so pink and plump.

His expression softened and he cleared his throat. “It’s fine,” he muttered, tearing himself away from her gaze to look down at his lap. After a moment of silence, Bucky stood up to return back to the floor.

“Stay.” The words left Y/N’s mouth before she had time to process them. Bucky froze and turned to face her. “I mean, if you want to, of course. Just figured the floor must be super uncomfortable for you.” Y/N felt a blush creep up onto her cheeks and kicked herself mentally. She looked down at her hands, regretting the words she spoke, before feeling the bed dip again. She looked up to see Bucky. He smiled and she almost melted at the sight.

She shifted over, putting the ice bag on the nightstand, as Bucky crawled into bed next to her. The two rested on their backs, both staring at the ceiling in silence. Bucky remained at a respectful distance away, not wanting to overstep any boundaries. Y/N turned on her left side, her good side, to face him.

“I’m glad you don’t hate me.”

Bucky turned on his side to face her before responding.

“I don’t think I could ever hate you.”

A strand of her hair had fallen in front of her face and Bucky, instinctively, reached out a hand to tuck it behind her ear. Immediately, he regretted it, about to pull his hand back when Y/N took her hand and placed it on top of his, guiding it to rest on her cheek. He cupped her face in his hand and she leaned into his embrace. Bucky felt his heart rate increase as she moved her body closer to his, wrapping the arm she used to hold his hand on her face, across his side. He shifted towards her as well, wrapping his arm around her body, bringing her closer to him.

“Is this okay?” He whispered, nervous that he might have somehow misinterpreted the situation. He hadn’t been with a woman in such an intimate way in years and had no idea what he was doing. Y/N looked up at him and nodded, before snuggling her face into his chest and Bucky felt a wave of calm wash over him.

“Can you stay here tonight?” Y/N mumbled, her face pressed into his chest. He chuckled at the vibrations from her voice and kissed her temple, smoothing her hair back.

“I’ll stay as long as you want me to, honey.”

Post-game highs were always ones to remember. Post-win highs, specifically. It was no secret that football scouts were in the stands, inspecting every player should they want to pursue them for their college team. Kildare had won tonight. Not that any other win was more special than the next, but as time passed the players’ futures depended on it.

Topper’s most importantly of course, as he was the best on the team anyway, but you were biased. You weren’t one to interfere too much with his football career, but you couldn’t help but eavesdrop on a scout who came up to him and expressed his interest. Playing in college was the next step for Topper, and you were there to support him no matter what.

It may be a small obstacle depending on the circumstances but you weren’t letting that separate you from your true love. The rankings of the best high school players in the nation were merely weeks away, so this was all the more reason for Topper to party his ass off.

Your concentration in eavesdropping fell short as your boyfriend wrapped an arm around you, his helmet resting on your lower back. “Congratulations, baby!” You smiled proudly, pecking his lips.

“Thanks, darling. I told you, you’re my good luck charm.” He smiled, cupping your chin with his white glove clad hand. “Almost ended our season when you didn’t show up that one time.” He referred, particularly to a game at the beginning of the season that you nearly missed, being home sick with a nasty cough you didn’t want to be the cause of spreading.

“Well, I still made it. Only took me a bottle or two of Mucinex.” You joked, slightly cringing as the bitter taste of the cough medicine came back to you.

He rolled his eyes at your dramatics. “I’m happy you’re so dedicated. I need you with me wherever.”

“Wherever is where I’ll be then.”

And that was the honest truth. Way before you and Topper had started dating, the two of you were pretty much inseparable. One of those “you never saw one without the other” type of things. After Topper had freshened up and changed, you both were ready to hit the after party Brett happened to be throwing.

Despite your so-called history with the boy, you all chose to be cordial to one another. Brett had been way over all of it anyway, no matter how much he liked to poke fun at your past arrangement. Topper was still Brett’s QB and if they couldn’t get along off the field, they would have to come together for their common ground regardless.

As much as you hated to admit it, if there was anything Brett was good at, it was throwing one hell of a party. Best guess, over 200 people were already crowding the large home. The atmosphere change riled Topper up quicker than ever, immediately drinking the first thing he was handed. (Along with you of course, being the girlfriend of pretty much football royalty on the island.)

At these things you tended to keep your alcohol intake to a minimum. Not only did you not want to be hunched over a toilet all night, but hangovers weren’t for you either. Plus, if you didn’t keep an eye on Topper, who else would? The boy was impulsive and keeping him out of serious danger or trouble was simply in your nature.

As the night when on you had to keep your nerves calm, watching Topper down shots left and right. “Babyyyy, come dance with me!” Top shouted, words coated with intoxication. He slightly wobbled as you tugged the arm he reached out to you, his equilibrium taking longer to catch up with him.

“I think you should sit down for a bit, love. You’re shitfaced.” You argued, plopping him down on the sofa cushion.

“Well.” He smirked, “Maybe you could give me a lap dance then, sweet thing.” You rolled your eyes at his drunken mood, starting to get annoyed by how out of it he was.

Topper getting totally wasted was not really a frequent occurrence, and for you it wasn’t enjoyable in the slightest. “The only thing I’m gonna give you is some water, babe. I’m gonna run to the car real fast. Stay here, don’t move!”

He pulled you back. “Hell, no. Y/n stay here and have fun with me, don’t be a bitch.”

You scoffed, “What’s gotten into you, Topper? You shouldn’t even be drinking this much. You’re an athlete, remember?”

“You’re so fucking uptight, I’m just having a little fun. We should be celebrating, Y/n. Loosen up.”

“You haven’t won, yet. You still have a fucking scrimmage tomorrow for the scouts to observe. You’re gonna ruin your football career before it even starts!”

“I’m great, Y/n. I can’t believe you have so little faith in me.”

“I’m just trying to help you. The asshole attitude isn’t necessary.” You stated, looking away from him before leaving the room.

Hurriedly you dug through your car to find some semi-cold bottles of water, not trusting a single clear liquid in Brett’s house. You sighed walking back towards the house, squinting a bit from the bright, colored lights emanating from the structure. Topper had been acting immaturely as the night went along, all thanks to the alcohol.

You wanted to have fun too, but keeping an eye out for your boyfriend took away from that. “Yooo! Y/n, how are you?” Kelce asked, blocking your way towards Topper.

“Hi, Kelce. I’m okay, just gotta find frosted tips.” You gave him a tight-lipped smile.

He chuckled at the nickname before replying. “Uhh, QB just headed out to the patio I think. How about I fix you a drink? I promise you’ll love it.” He offered.

“I should really find Topper, he’s drunk off his ass.”

Kelce shook his head. “Drink first, boyfriend later. Come onnnn.” He dragged out, leading you towards the kitchen. Consequently being so close with Topper, you became good friends with Kelce as well. So this wasn’t something out of the ordinary, but this wasn’t the time. And come to think of it, a little suspicious.

You stopped in your tracks which made him turn around towards you. “Kelce. Where’s Topper?”

His expression made you more uneasy than you’d prefer. “Chill out, I’m sure he’s like playing pool or something.”

“On the patio?” You raised an eyebrow at the boy in front of you.

You pushed past him along with the rest of the drunk people, eyes peeled for your boyfriend. The sight your eyes laid upon made you want to throw up. A random girl on your boyfriend’s lap, apparently giving him the lap dance you had declined to give him earlier.

You swallowed the forming knot in your throat as more and more eyes fell on you, the other party goers gossiping with their friends about the current situation. Time seemed to stop as the bottle of water fell from your grasp, hitting the floor inaudibly over the loud music.

Your expression was blank as you stood there and blinked in disbelief. Topper looked up momentarily before doing a double take, and throwing the girl to the side off of his lap. A hand fell on your shoulder before a person spoke. “Looks like he found that lap dance elsewhere, hun.” You were able to recognize the voice as Brett’s slurred one as he let out a deep chuckle.

You shoved him off of you before making a dash for the nearest exit. The feeling was unlike any other. You were shocked, hurt, and angry all at once. Mostly everyone had respected your relationship, of course there were a few here and there that chose to ignore the fact completely. But you and Topper trusted each other, so you never let it come between you.

Until now, I suppose. Faintly you could hear him calling out your name, but the ringing in your ears chose to overpower it. You wanted to faint but also had enough adrenaline to break his nose with a single punch.

His hand shut your car door just as quick as you had opened it, in a desperate attempt to explain himself. “Y/n, I swear-”

“I don’t wanna hear it, Topper. There’s nothing you could say that would make any of this better right now.” Your back was still towards him as he spoke from closely behind you, hand still on the door.

“She just wanted a picture I-, fuck- it wasn’t like that. You know I would neve-”

Before he could even finish the word, you turned to face him. The expression you wore stabbed at his heart and pricked small tears at his eyes. “How could you do this? There is literally no excuse at all. And you know damn well how this was when it happened to me with Brett. Do you know how fucking humiliating that was for me? And for you to do it, too? It feels a million times worse.” He couldn’t find adequate words. His mouth ran dry and he could not speak.
